While Diablo Necromancers have always been defenders of the Balance, the perception of them from non-Necromancers (particularly regular people and the Zakarum faith) has always leaned more towards traditionally negative ideas of Necromancy. I doubt it was retconned: the narrator was probably speaking from an in-universe perspective. Or did they retcon this lore to make it edgier? Or is this PC from a different sect? Are they rogue thinking the teachings of the Priesthood as insufficient to fight Hell? ![]() Priests of Rathma are all about balance, cycle, and pragmaticism and use this deeper understanding to twist and blur the lines between, yet none of that is conveyed in this trailer and it disappointed me.Ĭompare to the D3 Necromancer trailer where the emphasis is on "balance". Those are things they strictly stand against. ![]() Priests of Rathma would never call their own beliefs "forbidden", "profane", or "black". "Necromancer" is a label from those ignorant outsiders who know nothing about their beliefs or source of power and falsely associate it with anything to do with how Hell raises the dead. If anything, Priests of Rathma are mostly free from corruption or temptation, especially compared to other schools of magic. ![]() But that's not how the previous 3(4) games have describe them at all. suggesting they use the powers of Hell to fight Hell. This is how the narrator in the D4 trailer describes those called to be Priests of Rathma.
